Hamad International Airport (DOH), the hub of Qatar Airways, sits about 15 km south-east of central Doha, roughly a 15–25 minute drive depending on traffic and where you are staying. Most visitors head for the West Bay skyline, the Corniche, or the hotels of The Pearl-Qatar and Lusail. The Doha Metro's Red Line has its own station at the airport and runs straight into the centre; alongside it you have Karwa taxis, pre-booked private transfers, rental cars, hotel shuttles and ride-hailing apps. Which one suits you comes down to your budget, how much luggage you have, the time you land and where you are heading.

By taxi
The official Karwa taxis (the distinctive teal cabs run by Mowasalat) wait at the rank just outside the arrivals hall, so you rarely queue for long. They run on a meter, and an airport pick-up fee may be added on top of the metered fare. Fares are paid in Qatari riyal (QAR); many cabs also take cards, but it is worth carrying some cash. Because the final figure depends on traffic and your exact address, it is sensible to have your destination ready on your phone. Private transfer
A pre-booked transfer locks in a fixed price and puts a driver in the arrivals hall waiting for you, often with a name board. It is the calmest choice after a long-haul flight, when you are travelling as a family or group, carrying a lot of luggage, or landing late at night. You can also size the vehicle to your party. Rental car
Several rental companies keep desks in the arrivals hall. A car is the easiest way to reach outlying districts, the desert and the coast at your own pace; remember that traffic drives on the right, and an International Driving Permit is recommended alongside your national licence. Ride-hailing, hotel shuttle and the metro
- Ride-hailing: Uber and Careem both operate in Doha. Follow the signs to the airport's designated ride-hailing pick-up point rather than accepting an unofficial offer inside the terminal.
- Hotel shuttle: many Doha hotels run a pick-up service, so confirm the service and your flight details when you book the room.
- Doha Metro (Red Line): the airport has its own metro station, a short walk from Terminal 1, on the driverless Red Line that runs straight into central Doha, roughly 15 minutes to the Msheireb interchange, and on to West Bay and Lusail. It is by far the cheapest way into town (only a couple of riyals) and runs seven days a week, so it is a great option if you are travelling light.
